The Great Fade

“I can only thank you all for attending here today - to the great Exhibition Hall of Spindle,” announced Principal Inquisitive Orwell as he struggled to be heard over the din of bustling chatter, clanking knights, thudding automata and even a few squawks here and there.

“As I am sure you're all aware, we are facing a crisis of epic-”

At this, the fizzing crackle of an electric sword begins to hiss as it clashes against a nearby water elemental, causing it to react with a flood across the floor - followed by a burbling, sheepish apology.

“Never have so many Muses and Impressions been gathered in one place-”

The start of the somewhat embarrassing announcement of the first Brainstorm, to be held the following week. Security measures have since been put in place.

Things aren't looking good.

Two pieces of news have become known in Spindle, and no-one is sure which is more important - but no one can deny that they are both of great urgency, and one cannot be solved without the other.

Firstly, a frightening report from NFWS: Dream is beginning to Fade. Many had seen the effects, the far-off reaches of the Dreamscape becoming emptier and somehow less tangible; others had said they felt it, a slowing of the flow of Creative Juice felt deep within their selves - yet almost all had managed to convince themselves that it was nothing to be worried about. Thus few are truly surprised, but to hear it stated as plain fact makes it hard to deny any longer.

Secondly, Jommunity has realised that Jo has a mere 100 days to complete their Magnum Opus. Or at least, what they had hoped would be their Magnum Opus: their last chance to make their mark lest they be forever relegated to anonymity.

But there’s no way Jo will be able to produce anything even remotely as impactful as they had hoped with Dream in the state it’s in now, not to mention the fact that, if nothing is done, every Muse here may soon find themselves Fading. So, they must act - to rekindle Dream, to get those Creative Juices flowing, and to push Jo towards the greatness they deserve.

Brainstorms

As such, the Academy of Thought has called together a series of emergency summits called Brainstorms in order to determine the future of Dream, and - hopefully - to stop the landscape from dying around them. Though Muses control the creative powers of Jo's mind, there is a sense of panic emerging from the Vignettes - an underlying knowledge that they, too, are in danger.

Great Impressions have been summoned - or have summoned themselves - to these Brainstorms in order to seek help from Muses, though some see this as an opportunity to shape the Dreamscape to their own ends. Whatever the case, near-everyone is in agreement that something must be done.
